MR Poroelastography Using Intrinsic Activation


Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a non-invasive imaging technique that quantifies elastic properties of tissue which can be informative in diagnosis, classification, and characterization of various diseases. Tissue motion is measured using MRI and mechanical properties are recovered using a non-linear inversion (NLI) algorithm. The proposed work will focus on evaluating and validating a novel method called intrinsic activation MRE (IA- MRE). IA-MRE is an innovative approach to brain MRE and is based on endogenous low frequency motion (~1Hz) resulting from blood pulsation through the cerebrovascular system. The motions are reconstructed with a poroelastic mechanical model to produce three dimensional (3D) spatially resolved mechanical and hydrodynamical property images.
