Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Dartmouth, we know that diversity, in all its forms, is central to engineering innovation. That is why we strive to create an engineering community where people of all backgrounds, identities, experiences, and perspectives can learn and discover to their fullest potential in a community where each individual can feel an innate sense of belonging. In doing so, we create a community where true human-centered innovation happens.

Our Mission and Goals

"Our goal is to build a community that reflects the rich diversity of our world and create a culture in which individual identities and contributions are valued and respected. It's critical that every student, faculty, and staff feel welcome to teach, learn, and discover to their full potential."

—Alexis Abramson, Dean

Our Mission

Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth strive to build a school that embodies openness, accessibility, collaboration, and human-centered innovation, that elevates the voices of those from historically marginalized backgrounds, and continually works towards a community that comes together across differences as we respond to the challenges in our world.

DEI Strategic Plan

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan was built in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff during a nearly year-long process. Aligned with Dartmouth's Toward Equity: Aligning Action and Accountability plan, Thayer aims to build a learning and research community that prioritizes equity, health, and well-being, and creates a more inclusive future through the plan's actions, desired outcomes, and metrics.
