Simon George Shepherd

Research Assistant Professor and Lecturer

Professor Shepherd's primary reseach interests are in ionospheric and magnetospheric space physics. Together with scientists at the Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory he is using the SuperDARN coherent scatter radars to study ionospheric convection and how it responds to changes in the solar wind. He is also developing the capability to predict the occurrence of geomagnetically induced currents at the surface of the Earth with other scientists at the Thayer School of Engineering and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
